What Is Individualised Medicine?

Individualized medicine, a term coined by Western medicine, has recently gained attention as a more effective way of tailoring treatments to specific patients. However, this concept of treating individuals based on their unique needs and characteristics has been present in traditional forms of medicine for thousands of years. Oriental medicine, for instance, has always recognized that people are different and that the same treatment may not work for everyone. In order to practice individualized medicine, the first step is to understand what is happening in the body and how it differs from other people. While Western medicine has various tests like blood tests, x-ray scans, and ultrasounds, they don’t always show what’s going on in the body. This is where Oriental medicine and macrobiotic medicine come in, as they have developed various methods of understanding what is happening inside of us that can be learned and practiced by individuals themselves.

Oriental health reading, also known as Oriental diagnosis, is a whole series of different methods used to understand what is happening inside the body by examining signs on the outside of a person. Macrobiotics promotes self-education to enable individuals to look after their own health, and therefore, it is crucial to teach people how to use these methods to read their own bodies. These methods are divided into various visual methods, such as examining changes in the face, hands, feet, and tongue, as well as in the whites of the eyes. These changes reflect what is happening inside the body. Iridology, for instance, examines the iris to understand what has happened to the body.

In addition to visual methods, touch can also provide information about what is happening inside the body. Acupuncturists feel pulses to understand what is happening in different organs, and shiatsu on the meridians can also help identify which areas need attention. Different areas of the abdomen relate to different organs and can provide further insight into what is happening in the body.
One of the benefits of individualized medicine is that it recognizes that everyone is unique, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach to healthcare. Therefore, treatments that work for one person may not work for another. By understanding what is happening in the body and how it differs from others, treatments can be tailored to meet individual needs, leading to more effective outcomes.

In conclusion, individualized medicine, while relatively new to Western medicine, has been present in traditional forms of medicine for thousands of years. Oriental medicine, in particular, has developed various methods of understanding what is happening inside of us, which can be learned and practiced by individuals themselves. By recognizing that everyone is unique, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach to healthcare, treatments can be tailored to meet individual needs, leading to more effective outcomes.
